Cornel West & Travis Smiley Embark On Poverty Tour

Dr. Cornel West and T.V. talk show host Travis Smiley are embarking on what is being coined as a 6 day 18 city poverty tour. Recently Dr. West and Mr. Smiley spent time in the neighborhoods talking with people who deal with the struggles of economic stress that the poor and low income americans have been dealng with since the Bush recession. Some of the issues that Mr. Smiley and Mr. West want to shine the light on are the 19 million children that, according to the recent census are living in poverty, this equates to about 21%, when 21% of the riches country in the worlds children are living in poverty there something desperately wrong going on in Washington D.C. With 9.1% unempolyment, major cuts coming to the assistance programs that millions of low income americans depend on as a result of the last budget deal done in D.C., you have to wonder what can this so-called super committee do to hammer out a deal that won't increase the amount of distress that most americans are already feeling. When you hear a politician say WE ALL HAVE TO MAKE TOUGH DECISION !, what that means is the poor and the middle class will be getting screwed again, nobody that makes these decisions in Washington feels the effects and thats a fact, other then a few phone calls from some folks in there districts, airing and venting for a few days, because lets face it, you can barely pay your phone bill as it is, never mind running it up on hold waiting to speak with a aid at your congress persons  office. I think it's a good thing that Mr. Smiley and Mr. West are embarking on this tour, I certainly hope it is for the people, and I say that with a bit of experience with these types of tours. Hopfully the main stream media will pick it up and the issues they talk about will be aired across air waves and the major web outlets. I do want to make a comment about some of the things I heard said with regard to Obama and what he can do, DO YOU!!, i started this blog because i thought it would be a good thing and because it might help someone and or education someone not because of what Obama is or isn't doing, I don't have a talk show, and i've never been a professor at a university but i know what it takes to reach my hand out and pull someone up and along to help them reach their goal without looking for something in return thats it, it's very simple, don't sell it give your help when you can. Let us not forget when Obama had the house and the senate he got things done 1 trillion in stimulus, health care that i might add hasn't fully kick in yet, grants that are not controlled by the banking industry but by the department of education which makes it simple to go back to school and get a education in a field that is still in demand, your choice, and that Bin Laden thing wasn't no cake walk. The President just got finish morning with the families of the 30 U.S. service men that were shot down last week in Afghanistan, some he sent personally over there to do that job, when you loose a soldier that you personally sent on a job you feel that pain deep in your heart trust me I know. So instead of throwing stones at President Obama about the state of the economy, build something.
